Gangotri & Harsil Tour
Gangotri, located in the Uttarkashi district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand, is a significant pilgrimage site in Hinduism. It is one of the four sites in the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. Situated at an altitude of 3,100 meters (10,200 feet) on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, Gangotri is the origin point of the holy river Ganges.
According to Hindu mythology, it was at Gangotri that Goddess Ganga descended to Earth in the form of a river to absolve the sins of King Bhagirath’s ancestors. The Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, was built by the Gorkha commander Amar Singh Thapa in the early 18th century and is a major attraction for pilgrims.
